Kingdom of God Series – The Unseen Realm

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Romans 1:20 NIV

The Kingdom of God, or what some would call, Heaven, is God’s government that operates in the unseen realm. The scripture from Romans shared here clearly states that this invisible God, which would also include His kingdom, has made the earth and its systems in a such a way that we can clearly see how this unseen world works. Let’s take a look at how this government of God works in comparison to the earth.

In our world, specifically America, we practice a different form of government and allow the people to vote for the leader of their choice while giving them term limits. If they do something we dislike, we simply vote them out or impeach them, depending on their position. The government consists of an Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch which each have a different function. Laws are determined by the majority vote of those elected leaders and there is a system of checks and balances of power so that no branch of government overrides another in its influence over the laws that rule and govern the people. Living in a country that operates in such a manner can make it difficult to understand just how different the Kingdom of God operates. Let’s consider the differences with God’s government and how it compares.

But cursed be the deceiver Who has in his flock a male, And takes a vow, But sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished—For I am a great King,” Says the LORD of hosts, “And My name is to be feared among the nations.
Malachi 1:14 NKJV

God is a King and no one has a vote on whether or not he should be on the throne — He doesn’t have a term limit on His position. If He makes a decision that someone doesn’t agree with, they simply submit to His leadership or they are considered a rebel. The law is determined by what the King says, not a majority vote. While the American government has a Judicial Branch and Supreme Court with nine judges, God’s government has only one Judge that sits on the Supreme Court of Heaven — God Himself. He is in a unique position as King and Judge over all, which covers the functions of all branches of our government.

O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs—O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth; Render punishment to the proud.
Psalm 94:1-2 NKJV

As King, He owns everything and His citizens are considered stewards of His property and resources. As Judge, the word of His mouth is the law and anyone who disobeys it is considered a lawbreaker (criminal) in heaven’s justice system. While there are many similarities in the systematic nature of how a government is run, we have two different forms of government when comparing heaven and earth. Once mankind understands this difference, he can begin to come into the knowledge of how the Kingdom of God, or what we sometimes refer to as “The Spirit Realm”, operates.

Next, we will continue to unpack the reality of the unseen realm, its laws, and how mankind is to relate to it.
