Kingdom of God Series – Angels & Mankind

The LORD has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all. Bless the LORD, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure.
Psalm 103:19-21 NKJV

As we discussed in our previous post, God is a King who has a government that He rules over. This unseen world is the eternal world that existed well before the earth and mankind. God had also already made the angels and given them functions in His kingdom before the earth existed. Every kingdom has a royal family and citizens that serve the interest of the King and His family. The Bible describes the angels as the ministers, or servants, in the Kingdom of God who do the bidding of the King. The angels serve in various roles, similar to the earth, where everyone has different jobs and functions based on their ability. Some serve in the heavenly temple, others serve in the angelic army, and many serve on earth to fulfill the will of the King. All angels, according to Hebrews 1:14, are called ministering spirits. The word minister means “servant” which fully describes their role and function in heaven and on earth.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:26-27

God made the heavens and earth accordingly to Genesis 1:1. The Bible says that everything was made by the words that God spoke. There is a clear understanding in scripture that the power of God’s words brought everything into being from the creation of the world. After making everything on earth with all of its resources, He decided that someone needed to take care of and manage what He made. He decided to make mankind in Genesis 1:26 and ultimately gave “them” dominion, or authority, over His creation. When God said “let them” have dominion, He was fully delegating authority to man to rule and reign on earth, just as He rules in heaven. Here’s a scripture to help understand further:

The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to mankind.
Psalm 115:16 NIV

The scriptures tell us that He gave the earth to mankind. If earth is considered a separate territory from the Kingdom of God, then Adam was considered the King of the territory. He was the son of God, made a King, expected to rule the earth like his Heavenly Father. The scripture even calls Adam the son of God in Luke 3:38. This position given to man was unique from the angels, who were never given dominion. Thus, any activity or engagement that happens on earth must be “approved” or agreed to by mankind. This foundational understanding of how God set up the legal system of earth will help you understand why prayer actually matters.

I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
Psalm 138:2 NKJV

When God speaks a word, it becomes law. Not only for His subjects but for Himself. Any righteous and just King will do that which He has decreed from His own mouth. So when God set the earth in motion and made man to have dominion, He removed himself from the dominion mandate in order to allow man to have full authority over the earth on His behalf. The fact that God doesn’t violate His word validates the fact that He is a Just and Righteous King that can be trusted. However, mankind has blamed God for earth’s problems from the beginning, being ignorant of the law that put mankind in charge of earth’s affairs.

But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
Genesis 11:5-8

God has only ever helped in earth’s affairs when He’s given an invitation or gets agreement from mankind. You won’t find one example in scripture where God acted on any earthly matter without working with or through a man. However, He did not make man the Judge of the earth, so there are many times that He exercised judgment against crime (sin) on earth. In other words, He doesn’t take over management duties from us, but He does reserve the right to judge how we manage, because He is still the owner of the earth.

We will dig into this a bit deeper in future posts, but this lays the foundation for the creation of angels and mankind in the Kingdom of God. Now that we understand the legal system of earth and mankind’s crucial role of delegated authority from the beginning of creation, we can now dig into several more areas that uncover the mysteries of the unseen world.
